Therapy for Children

“The point of therapy isn't to get rid of anything but to help it transform." -Richard Schwartz
Don specializes at supporting children experiencing anxiety and helping boys with problematic behaviour. Don notices that children often unconsciously develop protective strategies to shield them from difficult emotions. Without care and attention to what is happening, these potentially beneficial strategies can cause anxiety, depression, or entrench behaviour patterns that may persist for a very long time. Children can benefit enormously from processing emotions and welcoming all parts of themselves as good. This often brings calm to their nervous systems and enables them to face challenges with healthy emotions and an array of approaches to circumstances.
Don’s approach with children involves ample time spent with games, art, and hands-on materials. Having worked with children for the better part of 30 years as a teacher and school administrator, Don understands how to make children feel comfortable and the importance play and fun serve in making them want to come back for more.
